If you’re a senior lady and feel like it’s time for a new set of clubs, you may be surprised to find that there aren’t really options geared specifically for senior women.
Women’s golf clubs are made to be lightweight and forgiving, and that just continues into the senior years.
However, some clubs do a better job of catering to the needs of a senior golfer. These clubs have a slightly lighter feel, a larger sweet spot, and more loft.
Here are the best senior ladies’ golf clubs I’ve found this year, broken down into categories in case you don’t want to replace your entire set.
What Senior Women Should Look For in a Good Set of Golf Clubs
Before I get into which golf clubs are the best on the market for senior ladies, let’s look at a few things you should consider as you shop for new clubs. If you aren’t quite ready for a complete set, make sure to take a look at my advice for a complete set vs. individual clubs.
Golf Shaft Technology
There are ladies’ golf shafts, and then there are men’s golf shafts. Men’s golf shafts are divided into many different flexes (extra stiff, stiff, regular, and senior). Ladies’ golf shafts are just ladies’ golf shafts. The technology is light, and the flex is about the same.
When senior women golfers reach an age where their speeds slow down, it’s discouraging to know that there is no “senior ladies” flex.
Luckily, more shaft options are coming to the market and are very lightweight. If you know your speed has slowed down, look for the lightest option you can find.
Multi-Material Construction
Golf clubs made with more tungsten should be a little lighter and have a more forgiving overall feel and performance. When you look at all of the premium manufacturers and their product offerings in 2023, you will see that multi-material construction is common throughout the entire lineup.
Having a carbon crown, and a high-strength Titanium face, mixed with Tungsten in the club head is a great combination.
As a senior woman golfer, it’s not all that important for you to know what each of these features does, how much tungsten will impact you, etc. The key is to look for multi-material construction, which usually means the company caters to a slower swing speed player.
Center of Gravity Positioning
A low center of gravity will help you increase the total launch. The center of gravity positioning is important for senior women as it gets harder and harder to hit down and through the ball.
Use this center of gravity positioning to increase your total distance and ensure the clubs you play with are more forgiving.
Center of gravity positioning is important in the driver, fairway woods, and the irons.
Draw Bias Design
A draw bias design is for golfers that tend to slice the ball. As your swing speed slows down and you become a little less aggressive at impact, the draw bias design is the way to go.
Sometimes the clubface will be a little offset or look a little closed, but for the most part, the draw bias is internal, and it works while you swing so that you don’t have to!
Pricing
The price of new golf clubs will range from anywhere in the $500 range for a complete packaged set to $500 for a single driver. The pricing depends on the manufacturer you choose and how new the technology is. If you pick a technology that is just a year or two old, it can save you a lot of money.
You see this with my top driver choice listed below.
Complete Set vs. Individual Clubs
One of the most difficult decisions for senior lady golfers is whether a complete set is necessary.
I like complete sets for beginners and for those that have not upgraded their golf clubs in a very long time.
The complete set is affordable, and it can get you some modern equipment across the entire bag in a short period of time.
If you already have a relatively new hybrid or a putter and a bag you like, upgrading the bag in pieces may make sense. Look for a new driver, then think about a new wedge in a few months. Staggering your equipment purchases makes a lot of sense.
8 Best Golf Clubs for Senior Ladies
As you read through the product descriptions, make sure to keep in mind that some women golfers have faster swing speeds and better playing abilities than others. Most senior women will collectively agree that extra ball speed would not hurt their game.
This is something I focused on, especially with the longer clubs. If you can get more ball speed without changing your swing, why not take advantage of it?
TaylorMade Women’s Kalea Premier 11 piece Set – Best Overall Full Clubs Set
Kalea Premier is engineered for advanced forgiveness, combining a low and back CG with an ultra-lightweight head construction that promotes faster swing speeds.
Pros
- Forgiving from both the fairway and the rough
- Low center of gravity
- High launch and spin rates for slower swing speeds
Cons
- Priced a little higher than other complete package sets for senior women
One of the biggest issues I have with complete golf club sets for women is the fact that the manufacturers often cut corners to make the set more affordable. With the TaylorMade Women’s Kalea Premier, you may pay a few dollars more, but the equipment you get will be well worth it.
Each of the Kalea Premier clubs has a low center of gravity, lightweight feel and construction, and the ability to increase golfers’ swing speeds.
When I tested the Kalea Premier, I was surprised by how fast the ball came off the clubface.
Some complete sets have sort of a dull or “dead” feel when you make contact; this the Premier, you won’t have that feeling. In addition, the short game tools are impressive, with a premium putter and wedges.
The set comes with a driver, 5 wood, 5 hybrid, 6 hybrid, 7-9-iron, PW, SW, putter, and stand bag.
Wilson Magnolia Complete Set – Best Value Full Clubs Set
Designed specifically for women's playing characteristics, these clubs are weighted and sized with specs designed to improve the golfing experience for women.
Pros
- Comes with three hybrids
- Nice carry bag with plenty of pockets
- Headcovers included
- Easy to hit sand wedges
Cons
- Paint on drivers and hybrids will chip if not protected by a headcover
The Wilson Magnolia complete package set is my favorite option for a senior woman who wants new clubs but doesn’t want to break the bank. These clubs are easy to hit, lightweight, and the best part is that they come with three hybrids.
As you move into your senior golf years, chances are you will notice a little less clubhead speed. The hybrid clubs are helpful when trying to get the ball out of the rough or to launch it high in the air.
In addition to the 4, 5, and 6 hybrids, the set comes with a driver, fairway wood, and 7, 8, 9, PW.
You also get a sand wedge, putter, golf bag, and headcovers. Although this set is geared a bit more toward the beginner and higher handicapper, there are some mid handicappers that may find these clubs to be a good match.
The only frustrating thing is that there is no petite-size option for the slightly shorter senior woman.
Callaway Big Bertha REVA – Best Ladies Driver
The Big Bertha REVA Driver is designed for women to unlock your inner distance. To help eliminate your slice or big miss, Callaway created their first high launch driver with an ultra-low forward CG for low spin. It’s a new formula for distance to give you a more consistent ball flight, and more tee shots that find the fairway.
Pros
- Low and forward center of gravity
- Low spin
- Flash Face is designed for extra ball speed
Cons
- Not quite as long as the new Paradym
As some women age, they take the driver out of the bag because of inconsistency. Don’t do this.
The driver gives you the distance advantage off the tee that you do need. The Big Bertha REVA is my favorite choice because it allows you to keep your swing (even if the speed is a little lower) but still gets plenty of long distance from it.
Callaway designed the Big Bertha head to have an internal draw bias and a really hot clubface.
The result is plenty of extra launch and distance. The Big Bertha REVA is not the newest release from Callaway, so pricing is fair, but I still find it to be one of the best choices for senior women.
Remember that a little extra draw bias means you can make contact with a slightly open face and still get rid of that slice.
XXIO Women’s 12 Fairway Wood – Best Fairway Wood
Individually developed components and carefully tuned clubheads make XXIO 12 Ladies the ideal club set for any women with a mid to high handicap.
Pros
- Rebound frame construction for higher ball speeds
- Lightweight crown
- Impressive top-down look
Cons
- Pricing can be a little high
The XXIO Women’s 12 Fairway Wood are the best for senior women golfers. This club is engineered specifically for slower swinging players and made with high-performance materials to help increase clubhead speed.
With the XXIO women’s fairway wood, you also find that the launch is considerably higher. I’ve noticed many women who have previously had trouble with hitting shots from the fairway have no issues getting this woodsup in the air.
Another stand-out feature of the XXIO club is the feel. The club has what is called ActivWing technology that stabilizes the clubhead at impact. This stabilization makes it so that the feel is more pure, and the ball tends to jump off the clubface.
The only downside with this wood for women golfers is that they are a little expensive. However, for the technology they offer, the price does seem justified.
Callaway Paradym X – Best Hybrid
Ladies' hybrid golf club with graphite shaft. Optimized center of gravity for easy launch. High MOI for increased forgiveness. Improved ball speed and distance. Stylish and easy-to-hit design.
Pros
- High-strength 455 Face Cup design
- Adjustable hosel
- Easy launching with a forward center of gravity
Cons
- Clubface looks really open at setup (But it’s not)
The new Callaway Paradym X hybrid has just hit the market, and it is my favorite choice for a senior woman golfer. The Paradym X hybrid looks different from previous models from Callaway. In fact, when I first put it in my hand, I was unsure if I would actually like the club.
After hitting a few perfectly straight and high, I realized that there was some impressive technology in the club.
At first, the clubface looks a little open, almost as if it points up. However, with the AI design and the Tungsten Speed Cartridge, you get a tremendous amount of distance with this club in your hands.
In addition, the adjustable hosel lets you fine-tune the hybrid loft to fit specifically in with the rest of the clubs in your set. Callaway kept the jailbreak technology in play, so if you are used to that jump off the face and the stability at impact, it will still be there in the Paradym hybrid.
Callaway Rogue ST Max Combo Set – Best Iron Set
The Lite version features more loft, lighter shafts and lighter weights to make these Calloway's easiest-to-swing Rogue model. Wide sole design for easy launch. High forgiveness and distance.
Pros
- Large clubhead with a big sweet spot
- Impressive launch
- Lightweight shaft for easier performance
Cons
- The top-down look is a little bulky
Senior women golfers should always have some kind of combo set. The combo set allows you to get a mix of hybrid and iron performance, and it encourages more forgiveness in the club.
I like when the iron sets flow right into the hybrids because it provides consistency in the game and allows for a similar feel and tempo as you move through the bag. The Callaway Rogue ST Max Combo set is my favorite iron set for the senior woman golfer.
There is a lot of technology packed into this set, and you can customize which clubs you want to be included as irons and which are best to be hybrids. The Rogue ST Max golf clubs have urethane microspheres that allow for enhanced sound and a more pure feel.
Many senior women golfers start to develop a strong dislike of their golf irons because they feel heavy and ineffective. With the Rogue ST Max Combo set, you should not notice this being an issue.
Pure feel and fast ball speeds is a tough combination, but Callaway managed to pull it off in these senior lady golf irons.
Cleveland Women’s Golf CBX2 Wedges – Best Wedge
Women's wedge optimized loft for precise shots. Enhanced control and spin. Wide sole design for easy launch. Forgiving and stylish, suitable for all skill levels.
Pros
- Hollow cavity design
- Great feel
- Plenty of spin when chipping around the greens
Cons
- Not as forgiving as a chipper or similar club
The Cleveland Women’s CBX2 golf wedge is my favorite choice for the senior woman golfer. When choosing wedges, it’s really important to look at both feel and spin. Feel allows you to design your short game shots and place the ball where you want it.
The CBX2 wedges have a great feel, but they also have a bit of extra forgiveness built in. Cleveland included their Tour Zip Grooves to increase spin and control, and they put a Rotex Precision Graphite shaft in to help increase overall performance.
They have a cavity back design, and come in three different sole grinds to get a more specific feel for the course you are playing. I think senior women golfers tend to do best with mid to high bounce in their wedges.
The CBX2 is also available in several different lofts. Don’t limit yourself to one loft; it’s best to have at least two and maybe even three high-lofted wedges in the bag.
As a senior women golfer, nothing stops you from being a better chipper than a 25-year-old golfer!
Odyssey Women’s White Hot OG Putter – Best Ladies Putter
White Hot OG insert offers consistent feel and performance. High MOI design for enhanced stability. Precision milled surface for improved roll. Comfortable grip for optimal control.
Pros
- Great looking clean top-down look
- Lots of stability at impact
- Comes with different shaft options
Cons
- Some golfers prefer a milled face
I know the Odyssey Women’s White Hot OG may seem like a classic or boring choice for the best putter for senior ladies, but I’ll explain. There is a reason that this putter did so well when it first came to market; it’s just really good.
Odyssey did a great job with the putter face and ensuring it had a firm but pleasant feel. You can get the golf ball rolling on the line the way it should, but you won’t have to worry about it feeling harsh. The two-part urethane insert has made a strong comeback.
In addition, the alignment factor on the Odyssey White Hot OG is just better than other choices out there. You can easily see where your putter face is set up, and this works for both long and short putts.
Lastly, Callaway is one of the pioneers in ensuring that golf putters are made with a shaft that suits the player. This particular model is available in the multi-material Stroke Lab shaft. This is a combination of steel and graphite.
The Stroke Lab shaft improves feel, and I almost feel as though it adds a bit of creativity back into putting. This is a good thing! Allowing you as the player to feel as though you are in control and capable of designing the putt the way that works best for your game.
The Odyssey White Hot 2 Ball putter will stay in your bag for years to come; this technology never seems to get old.
