Having to choose between dozens of beginner golf club sets that may all look the same to you only makes an already difficult game more complicated.

Lucky for you, I’ve helped many of my students, friends, and family find a beginner golf club set that works for their needs. The key is understanding the technology and knowing what comes in each set.

This article will cover some of the best options for beginner golf club sets for women in 2023. But first, let’s talk about what you should even be looking for as you consider the different options on the market.

What Women Should Look for in a Good Set of Beginner Golf Clubs

Women golfers need some very basic features in a new set of clubs, and this includes forgiveness, high launch, and lightweight technology for distance. Here is how you can ensure that you are getting the right set of beginner women’s golf clubs for your needs.

Distance Technology

Even though you might not know it yet, it’s fun to hit the golf ball far. When you can get more distance from your clubs, you’ll have an easier time shooting lower scores. Distance technology is generally represented by the terms ball speed or smash factor.

If a golf club set you are considering says it has high ball speed, the distance technology will likely be good.

Forgiveness

The most forgiving golf clubs have a higher launch, lower center of gravity, and large sweet spot. Most beginner sets for women have no trouble getting you tons of forgiveness.

I’d look for something that says it is lightweight. Also, stay away from any clubs that have a more blade style or thin look to them. In the beginning, playing with bulky clubs will likely increase your chances for success and consistency on the course.

Golf Club Set Makeup

The most crucial part of finding the best beginner golf club sets for women is to make sure you have the right clubs to learn the game. I recommend that your beginner set have at least these clubs:

  • Driver
  • 5 Wood
  • 5 Hybrid
  • 7 & 9 Irons
  • Pitching Wedge or Sand Wedge
  • Putter

If you can find a set that has two hybrids, as well as a pitching wedge and a sand wedge, that is even better. Something like the Wilson Magnolia that comes with three hybrids is a bonus and will likely help you keep this set in play for years to come.

Pricing

We split our best beginner golf club sets for women into categories that will help budget, mid-range, and premium shoppers.

The main differences between a budget and a premium set are the number of clubs included, the technology used in the golf club, and the materials. A more premium club will feature high-end shafts, some tungsten or titanium used in the heads, and slightly better longevity.

The premium sets make sense if your entire family golfs and you plan on joining them every weekend.

For those that are truly new to the game and have never been exposed before, think about going with a budget option to make sure you like the sport. In 3 or 4 years, you can upgrade.

Fitting

Club sets are limited when it comes to fitting options. Women in the 5’4″ to 5′ 8″ range is the perfect height for a standard beginner golf club set. If you are shorter than 5’4″, there are some petite options available.

Some women golfers that are closer to 6’0″ can look into a senior beginner golf set. Sometimes the senior beginner sets have the same flex and weight in the shaft that the ladies’ clubs do.

However, there are also companies like Wilson that often have tall golf club sets for women.

The Extras

Although the clubs included in the set are the most important, it’s a good idea to consider the golf bag and the headcovers that come with the complete set. If you like to walk, a stand bag is a better choice than a cart bag.

Also, look for a golf bag that has good storage and organization.

Best Budget Clubs for Beginner Women

Budget golf clubs will be lower in price and may lack a bit in the feel and longevity category, but they are an excellent choice for the beginner that is not sure if golf will be their sport long term.

Nitro X Factor Complete Set

Top budget pick
Nitro X Factor 13 Piece Ladies Golf Set

13-piece, affordable graphite shafted ladies' option for beginners.

Check Price on Amazon

Pros

  • Fair price
  • Forgiving mallet style putter
  • A lightweight golf bag is easy to carry
  • High MOI hybrid

Cons

  • Short game tools are not great
  • Will eventually need to add more clubs

The Nitro X Factor Complete Set is an affordable graphite shafted ladies’ option for beginners. My favorite club in the Nitro set is the hybrid. I can almost guarantee as a beginner player, this will quickly become your favorite as well.

The hybrid is lightweight, has a high MOI, and can create quite a bit of distance and accuracy. The driver has a higher launch and a low center of gravity to help the ball get in the fairway a bit easier.

One of the problems with budget golf sets is feel, and the feel on the Nitro X Factor Complete could be better in the short game. There is just one club (a 9/P) and it makes it hard to get the ball out of a bunker or high in the air for a pitch shot.

I recommend purchasing an additional sand wedge and putting it in with this set. You’ll still get a great deal.

What’s Included: Driver, fairway wood, hybrid, 6-8 iron, a 9/P iron, putter, stand bag.

Confidence Lady Power III Complete Set

Confidence LADY POWER III Golf Club Set & Stand Bag

Women's hybrid club set ideal for beginning golfers. Stand bag with all-weather grips and auto-pop legs.

Check Price on Amazon

Pros

  • Forgiving hybrid with plenty of loft
  • Putter length perfect for women golfers
  • All-weather golf grips
  • High launching cavity back irons

Cons

  • No sand wedge included
  • Ball speed from the driver is not incredibly high

The Confidence Lady Power III Complete Set may be affordable, but there is a lot of value here for the beginner woman golfer. Most beginner golfers that play casually need a driver, a hybrid, a few irons, and a putter.

That is exactly what you get with the Confidence Lady Power III Complete Set.

The driver has 12 degrees of loft. It may be a little harder to get this one off the ground initially, but as you get used to it, you should benefit from more distance.

Again, I really like the hybrid included in this set, and I wish there was one more of them. The irons are highly forgiving and produce good launch angles. Unfortunately, the wedges are lacking – with just the pitching wedge in place, you may need to add in that extra sand wedge to round out the Confidence Lady Power III Complete Set.

What’s Included: Driver, hybrid, 6-PW, putter, stand bag.

Tour Edge Lady Edge Complete Set

Tour Edge Lady Edge Full Set

Comes with everything you need to get out on the course without breaking the bank. This full set is specifically crafted for performance across the whole bag.

Check Price on Amazon

Pros

  • Specifically made for the needs of a woman golfer
  • Lightweight
  • Affordable for the number of clubs you get
  • Includes two hybrids
  • Has a sand wedge

Cons

  • The golf bag isn’t premium
  • Doesn’t have a stand bag option

Tour Edge always brings really great value to the beginner woman golfer. They have a few different set options and even a half set for those that are not sure if golf is for them. My favorite in the budget range is the Tour Edge Lady Edge Complete Set.

The set makeup on the Tour Edge Lady is one of the best in the budget category. You will get both a 3 and 5 wood, and a 6 and 7 hybrid. You will notice that the set also includes the sand wedge. For most beginner golfers, there will be no need to upgrade the Tour Edge Lady Complete for years to come.

One of my complaints with the Tour Edge Lady Edge Complete is the golf bag. Its materials are a bit thinner than others, and the colors will fade over time. With the excellent club selection here for the price, it’s worth it to get a golf bag that is not necessarily premium.

What’s Included: Driver, 3 and 5 fairway, 6 and 7 hybrid 8-SW, Putter, Cart Bag

Best Mid-Range Clubs for Beginner Women

The mid-range clubs for beginner women often included an extra hybrid or fairway wood. They also have more technology built into the short game clubs. This should help improve overall feel and accuracy around the greens.

Wilson Luxe Complete Set For Women

Top mid-range pick
WILSON Luxe Golf Complete Women's Golf Set

Designed specifically for women players with lightweight graphite shafts (except putter) and women's sized soft, all weather grips.

Check Price on Amazon

Pros

  • Lightweight graphite shafts
  • Perimeter weighted 431 stainless steel irons
  • Premium cart bag with fleece lined valuables pocket
  • Matching headcovers

Cons

  • It would be great to have another hybrid
  • No option for a stand bag

Wilson makes a variety of golf clubs for the beginner and more experienced players. The Wilson Luxe is one of my favorites because of the quality of the clubs. They have an impressive feel and can help a beginner player learn to develop their game.

With the Wilson Luxe Complete Set, you’ll notice that the low center of gravity in the irons helps to increase launch and improve overall accuracy on the course. The driver also has a huge sweet spot and plenty of loft. It’s one of the more forgiving and better-feeling drivers on this list.

Although I don’t love cart bags (they’re not great for walking the course), this bag has nice colors, good quality material, and plenty of storage for your golf accessories and gear.

I think this is one of the most overlooked beginner golf club sets for women, and it deserves more attention.

What’s Included: Driver, 3 fairway, 5 hybrid, 6-PW, SW, Putter, Lightweight cart bag, matching headcovers.

Strata Ultimate Women’s Complete Set

Callaway Women's Strata Complete Golf Set

The Strata 11 Piece women’s complete golf set is designed for maximum performance right out of the box.

Check Price on Amazon

Pros

  • High flight technology
  • Long distance off the tee
  • Stand bag
  • Face milling on the putter for greater accuracy

Cons

  • There is some vibration at impact when you miss the center of the face
  • Wedges are a little bulky looking

Callaway Strata golf clubs are perhaps the most well-known beginner golf club sets on the market. With the Callaway Strata Ultimate, you get a great set makeup, plenty of forgiveness, and a stand bag that can be used to walk the golf course.

Although I like the Strata, some people choose it too quickly. Callaway does a great job of standing behind their product, but it’s essential to at least consider options from companies like Tour Edge, Cobra, and even Wilson.

I like the Ultimate better than the other Strata options because of the second hybrid and the sand wedge included.

What’s Included: Driver, 3 wood, 4 & 5 hybrid, 6-9 iron, PW, SW, putter, stand bag, 4 head covers.

Tour Edge Moda Silk

Tour Edge Moda Silk Womens Golf Set

Tour Edge packed a good bit of technology into this set that will work for beginner golfers as well as those who think they're going to stick with the game for years to come.

Check Price on Amazon

Pros

  • Large 460cc driver with a bit of offset
  • Two very easy-to-hit hybrids included
  • A sand wedge is built with plenty of built in spin
  • High MOI putter

Cons

  • Set is heavy on the hybrids and fairways, so it is priced a little higher

The Tour Edge Moda Silk is not the newest release from Tour Edge, but it’s always been one of my favorites for both the set makeup as well as the feel. Tour Edge really packed a good bit of technology into the set that will work for beginner golfers as well as those that are going to stick with the game for a while.

I have always felt beginner players do better with fairway woods and hybrids. Having this technology in the bag will increase the chances of hitting long shots from the fairway and making the game all that much more fun in the beginning.

Having the sand wedge and a high MOI putter also shows that Tour Edge was serious about women golfers developing their short game.

What’s Included: Driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, 5 hybrid, 6 hybrid, 7-SW, putter

Wilson Magnolia Package Set

Wilson Magnolia Package Golf Set

Designed specifically for women's playing characteristics, these clubs are weighted and sized with specs designed to improve the golfing experience for women.

Check Price on Amazon

Pros

  • Lightweight clubs help promote more distance
  • The oversized sweet spot for better forgiveness
  • Three hybrids included for a fair price

Cons

  • The golf bag can feel a little heavy

The Wilson Magnolia Package Set has a unique feature that differentiates it from other package sets for women on this list. With the Wilson Magnolia, you get three hybrid clubs in addition to irons, a fairway wood, and a driver.

If you look at the price of an individual hybrid and think about 3 of them being included in this set, it’s easy to see why the value here is so impressive. The Magnolia set from Wilson also has one of the nicer-looking bags that is dark in color and will avoid getting as dirty.

The clubs are lightweight and high launching, and will work for quite some time if you are a female golfer ready to play golf for years to come.

What’s Included: Driver, 5 wood, 4,5, 6 hybrid, 7-PW, SW, Putter, golf bag, headcovers.

Best Premium Clubs for Beginner Women

Premium golf clubs for beginner women often are made with better materials, have more clubs included, and will have better longevity than the mid-range and budget options.

Cobra Women’s Fly XL

Top premium pick
Cobra Women's Fly XL Complete Set

The women’s FLY-XL complete set is designed with all the tools you need to set you up for success on the course.

Check Price on Amazon

Pros

  • Will last for many years (even beyond the beginner stages)
  • Great power and ball speed
  • Comes with three fairway woods

Cons

  • It would be nice to have another hybrid mixed in
  • 3 wood is hard to hit off the ground

The Cobra Women’s Fly XL is one of my favorite women’s beginner sets for the more athletic woman. If you have a bit of clubhead speed and think a beginner golf set should help you get some extra distance and power, this is a great option to consider.

With the Cobra titanium driver, the oversized head is heel biased, so even those first slices will be toned down a bit with this club in play. There are 3 fairway woods here, clubs that most women golfers will find necessary as they learn the game.

I’ve also always liked this golf bag as it is more sturdy and durable. Even if you upgrade clubs at some point, you may still be able to keep the golf bag in play for years to come.

What’s Included: Driver, 3, 5, and 7 wood, 5 hybrid, 6-PW, SW, Putter, Golf Bag, Headcovers

Callaway Golf Reva Complete 8-Piece Set

Callaway REVA Complete Golf Set

Designed for the ultimate combination of distance and forgiveness to inspire confidence in every swing.

Our Rating:
4.0
Check Price on Amazon

Pros

  • Easy to launch
  • Deep cavity back irons for added forgiveness
  • Responsive sand wedge

Cons

  • The 8-piece set is a bit limited
  • Will eventually need to add in some other clubs

Even though the Callaway Strata was already featured on our list of the best beginner golf club sets for women, the Reva is a step up.

The real difference you find between something like the Strata and the Reva is feel. Callaway Reva golf sets have a great feel and consistency.

The one downside of the Reva is that the 8-piece is a bit limited in the clubs that you get. There is another 11-piece set, but that would be a better choice for the serious beginner or those who have been playing the game a while.

Reva was designed to combine forgiveness, consistency, and distance for women golfers. My favorite part of the entire set is the Stroke Lab Putter. I give Callaway credit for putting some of their best technology in a putter for women golfers.

What’s Included: Driver, 5 wood, 6 hybrid, 7 iron, 8 iron, SW, Putter, Cart Bag, headcovers

TaylorMade Kalea Premier Set

Taylormade Kalea Premier 11 PC Set

Kalea Premier is engineered for advanced forgiveness, combining a low and back CG with an ultra-lightweight head construction that promotes faster swing speeds.

Check Price on Amazon

Pros

  • Premium golf clubs combined into a set specifically for women players
  • Lightweight yet responsive shafts
  • Pure feel at impact, especially with the irons

Cons

  • Premium pricing

The TaylorMade Kalea Premier Set is one of the most expensive options on the market for the beginner golfer. However, there are some features here that many women players will find worth paying for.

To start, the Kalea Premier set has very high ball speeds throughout. However, the areas where this will stand out the most are in the longer clubs.

The driver is a 460cc clubhead with a low center of gravity, high launch, and a ton of distance. The face is larger than it was in previous Kalea models making it easier to get an extra roll and total distance off the tee.

The irons feature a Cap Back design, which TaylorMade uses in their premium irons. The Cap Back helps to reduce vibrations at impact and make the club a bit steady.

Another impressive feature here is the golf bag. This is a cart-style bag with a 14-way top, 7 pockets, and a structured base. I found it worked pretty well on both a pushcart and a traditional golf cart.

What’s Included: Driver, 5 wood, 5 hybrid, 6 hybrid, 7-9-iron, PW, SW, Putter, Stand Bag

FAQs About Buying Clubs as a Beginner

Here are a few of the most commonly asked questions about purchasing women’s golf clubs as a beginner.

Should I Buy New or Used?

With the pricing of the women’s beginner golf clubs ranging from around $200 to over $1400, there are good options for any price range. Used clubs save you money, but it can be hard to find something that is a specific match for your golf game.

I would stick with new clubs when you can afford them, as they will make the initial stages of learning the game much easier.

Which Clubs Should I Carry in My Bag?

The woman beginner golfer should carry a driver, fairway wood, a hybrid, two to three irons, a wedge, and a putter. Golf sets with more than one hybrid or several fairway woods will come in handy as swing speed and accuracy increase.

How Much Should I Expect to Pay for a New Set of Clubs?

For a beginner set of women’s golf clubs, expect to pay around $500. This is where we see most of our mid-range sets priced. They will all feature the technology that slower swing speeds need and provide easy launch in a ladies’ flex shaft.
